I have two Foxconn nettops that I have mounted to two TVs (one is 720p and one is 1080p). I can watch TV with Windows Media Center (I have a Ceton tv tuner) no problem. On my 720p TV, I watch 720p movies with XBMC with no problem.

On my 1080p TV, I'm trying to watch a 3D MKV but it's stuttering like mad. It's a 3D television of course, and my first time trying this. I don't think it's a 3D issue, but I thought XBMC uses hardware acceleration by default. Isn't the E350 supposed to be capable of 1080p, or am I possibly missing something?

System has 4GB of RAM and Windows 7 Pro x64, running on an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD. I wasn't running anything else in the background.

Is it a 1080p half-SBS file? Or a frame-packed full SBS file? The E350 can handle the first but not the second.

Where can I find that info? I know it's split vertically, so I have a top/bottom picture.
So you're thinking a regular 1080p mkv should work fine?

You could try playing the file on your desktop in something like VLC and look at the file info. Top and Bottom files are usually full size (so double 1080p, one for each eye), but it wouldn't hurt to check. What could be the problem if they are full 3D is that those files are meant to be delivered via frame packing but instead it is getting downscaled. I have had that happen.

That APU should be able to handle almost any 1080p mkv you throw at it up to crazy bitrates.

I'll toy with it hopefully tonight and report back. Thanks for taking the time to respond, bud. Yeah, I thought this APU is powerful also, which is why I was wondering if it could be a hardware acceleration issue... but I thought XBMC takes advantage of that by default. How can I check if that's working correctly also?

Under video settings it should be using DXVA. But that is the default, no reason for it not to.

One thing I have had a problem with on AMD APUs is drivers. With my E450 the general AMD driver for the chipset won't accelerate things properly but the official one for that board from Asus will. Just one thing to note.

Here's info through VLC like you asked. I played it on my gaming/main desktop, which never has a hiccup:

Looking into it more, it's half-OU... hmmmm, so I wonder why I'm having an issue. I'm going to try VLC if I get a chance tonight.

Try a different 1080p mkv and then you know if its the file (some files are just encoded funky) or the setup.

Ok first of all thanks for all the help. Second, I solved the problem. When in doubt, cover all ends, so I installed the latest amd driver and that's all it took. It could be that I used to watch 720p and it was fine without HA.

Glad it's solved. 1080p 3d worked like a champ with XBMC!! :)
