AMD approved power supplies

I used to use amd's website b4 building a computer to make sure a power supply was amd approved for a certain athlon. Now I see they no longer do that. How do you know what power supply is good and adequate for bartons or xps or fx's or 64's etc.?
 
Usually it'll say on either the PSU or the PSU box. For example, I got my new PSU (Enermax 465VE) and on the box it says 'Pentium 4 and K8 compliant'

If its K8 compliant, its obviously K7 too 🙂
 
Actually if you buy a new mobo make sure is has the P4 (4-pin square) connector to power the CPU- I won't buy one that lacks it any more. Then any decent brand rated at 250W up should do fine.

I used to hear that 300W was the minimum for Pentium 4 and AMD Athlon XP CPU's... but now I'm seeing computer shipped from Gateway with 180W power supplies. We bought 10 for our office.

Yeah, most people overestimate the power need for a computer. A lot of people figure that if a more powerful PSU comes out, they NEED the power... such is not the case. It's good for PSU companies though. 🙂
