thats definitely bad for Intel. They'd probably been in on it too if it wasn't for good ol' Rambus.

those are some big wigs, I hope this doesn't become another Microchannel vs ISA kinda situation. That could seriously damage an already frail industry.

Considering HyperTransport is so much more powerful and innovative than 3GIO (what a name) I don't see how their can be a "standards war". Of course, Intel has a rough and long history of trying to control things. Anyone remember when (Barrett?) said "the days of socket processors are over" when the ludicrous 'slot' processor was launched?

not to mention that the name itself Hypertransport is a million times cooler sounding and consumer friendly than "3GIO"

Will Intel & Co. be big enough to push Hypertransport into Comm. only????

Intel specification; we want it to be an industry

Taken from article..........

  • But Brookwood said it's quite possible that Intel will prevail in computers, while the communications market embraces HyperTransport. "If Intel comes up with something that's very compelling, we could see a situation where desktop PCs go with 3GIO," Brookwood said.

Edit: Personally I wish they could just all work toward one good standard......and Hypertransport seems to be much further along so.........;)
