AMD announces Turion processor line

Topic pretty much says it all.

Article here.

The article calls it "AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology", which implies to me it's some sort of Hammer variant tuned for mobile use. Unfortunately, Reuters gives zip as far as real details.

AMD's site has no info that I can find as of yet.

so this is "supposedly" the new pentium m killer as i've heard. well, i sure hope it turns heads since many are skeptical of amd being able to beat the ever increasingly popular pentium M. 🙂

The BEST thing about the upcoming technology...it drives older technology prices down. Just a matter of time.

Heh, those were almost the exact words that went through my mind when I saw this, Sunner. It seems like a pretty easy job, though... add "on" to random strings of letters, pick the one you like least, then go home at four in the afternoon.

Anyway, this looks.. interesting. What kind of power consumption will we see here?

Turion? That just sounds horrible...AMD needs a new marketing detp bad. I mean Centrino sounds a LOT nicer than "Turion"...

Turion? WTF is that supposed to mean?

Yeah - they need to take a lesson from the marketing guys at VW and Toyota.

Are you just kidding, or referring to the fact that Turion sounds a bit like Touareg? 😉

Kidding based on the stupid names Toyota had had for years. VW isn't as consistent but often just as bad. GM is in the running as well.

I've gotta say Toyotas names are better than AMD's.
They're mostly pretty boring, but not outright silly like AMD's.

And I guess Intel got some help from BMW then, with the 3/5/6/7 series 😛

I donno, I kind of like AMDs names, at least up until now. Athlon the athletic processor. Duron the durable. Sempron sounds like the Latin always.

What the heck is a pruis? It sounds like a laxative. RAV4 - is that supposed to appeal to the rave crowd? And I didn't like sienna when it was a crayon.

Athlon is ok, though it's kinda "clunky" in Swedish 🙂
Duron...don't know, can't quite get used to it, sounds pretty lame.
Sempron, first thing I think of is a brand of gruel, second thing I think of is pr0n.

Prius...doesn't make me think of anything, good or bad, which is still better than gruel or pr0n.
RAV4, yeah I don't know where that came from, but I guess at least the 4 could signify 4 wheel drive(to the RAV4's have it by the way? Not my type of car 🙂).

a sucker of asparagus ...ok

the Sumpr0n is better nomenclature..by far

Oh man, spelling it Sumpron got me thinking of another Swedish word that would probably get me banned...

Ah, you're Swedish. Well, Saab doesn't translate that will to English - it sounds like crying. And Volvo...
