so if you boil that down, what does this mean to the average PC system owner?

Does this mean anything good for windows or linux users?

It is too soon to tell IMHO. All we are seeing at the moment is a slow crawl towards some unknown endpoint.

Part of me wonders how much of this technology will be dependent on the state of consumer displays? If higher resolutions become more affordable then we might see larger GPU to CPU ratios.

I'd imagine larger GPU to CPU ratios would entice more developers over to GPGPU.

a thought that struck me: if this tool gets used by more developers, AMD will also bind themselves to providing support for it right?

So it would be a mirrored improvement for both end users and AMD in terms of less problems with software/hardware.


AMD has made some headway this year in terms of marketshare and mindshare, lets hope they get to the point where they can heavily invest in support and software aswell as hardware.
