AMD has not completely dropped support for pre 5000 series cards. That's a misunderstanding from them saying they aren't going to include them in the monthly updates any longer (When the announcement was made AMD was still doing monthly driver updates).

AMD says the cards are mature as far as performance updates goes. They will still continue bug fixes and game fixes when needed.

you mean 4000 series right?

5000 series is still supported normally in every version (and beta version),

but well, the last 4000 series driver was 12.6 from a long time ago...

I will try these on my HTPC tonight which has a 4890 in it.

When I installed these on my main rig with a 6950 unlocked on reboot I got a stop error and couldn't boot.

I had to run a repair from the windows disc to get the system booting again.

This in on a 1 month old install of win 7 x64 so there is no junk in the system and the only drivers installed previously were the 12.10 drivers.

Once repaired it was fine so be careful!

Yes, 4000 series. I worded it differently and said pre 5000. Easy to miss it's just a little word. ;)
