AMD all screwed up...(happy ending)

I've posted here a couple times with problems getting my first AMD rig setup and stable. (1.4gig, EPOX 8k7a, 256 DDR)

Not knowing a single thing about AMD, VIA, 761 or anything else pertaining to this CPU and chipset, I had an awful time trying to learn, but in the end the setup IS quite simple and problem free once you know what to look for.

After a few days of crash studying of why I was receiving tons of problems, the majority was a poor PSU. I found an ANTEC 400 at a local compUSA and 2/3 of every problem dissappeared.

The next hurdle was strange and slow performance. The 4in1 4.32 and AMD agp mini drivers installed directly after my OS setup fixed that totally. The bustmaster works like a charm now copying/installing/whatever from IDE2 to IDE1.

The last was not being able to access my SCSI ZIP drive and scanner. This was remedied by purchasing a new SCSI card. (And this confirms my original thought that the EPOX 8k7a is NOT compatable with the Adaptec 2906 SCSI card.)

It was a frustrating few days but after a couple posts here and a break or two to get away from it, I was finally able to iron out all the wrinkles and now have a very stable and fast working computer system (compared to my p3-650).

I want to say thank you for all the help I had received. Most everyone was very pleasent and patient. I never would have found the right direction without it.

PS...My next thought is to eventually setup XP to run stable in it ;) ...anyone have advice on which drivers and where the are for it?

I believe what I went thru has nothing to do with what brand of motherboard I bought, chuckieland.

These are drivers for all AMD motherboards to solve the bustmastering and agp problems.

if you went asus or msi, instead of cheap motherboard

Epox is a cheap motherboard? Puh-lease. They are very stable, one of the first board makers to get rid of pheonixnet, and the FIRST board I know of with a 1/5 PCI divider.

MSI is also really high quality, but personally I dont like Asus (too OEM oriented)
