For those of you who have been harping on how much AMD needs to advertise, you finally will get your wish.
Article

"SAN FRANCISCO Advanced Micro Devices has selected four agencies to compete in the review for its estimated $40 million U.S. ad account, sources said...
...AMD in Sunnyvale, Calif., has spent less than $5 million on ads in each of the past two years, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus. Sources said spending would be increased next year as the client looks to better compete against Intel and other rivals in the microprocessor space"

I sure hope their new advertising is a little better than the Lance Armstong commercials run during the Tour De France. They weren't horrible, but definately didn't make me want to jump off the couch and run to the nearest computer retailer. (Granted a trio of blue men doesn't have that effect on me either).

I will be waiting to see what they can come out with, but still $40 mil vs. gawd only knows what Intel spends per year on marketing.... It's going to be a tough battle as ussual.

As long as they don't stop making good processors (like intel) , it's good.
You Know,
Big marketing-Bad and expensive CPUs (This is what intel heve been done)
Low MArketing-Great and not so expensive CPus (This is what AMD have been doing)
Big MArketing-Good CPUs and not so expensive (This is what we hope AMD will do)

I've seen a couple of AMD TV spots. I just wish I had money to buy AMD stock right now, as soon as they spin off spansion, their stock price is going through the roof.

Advertising isn't necessarily meant to incite people to "jump off the couch and run" to the store... It's about brand recognition and corporate identity.

Btw, from what I understand, The Blue Man Group has been Intel's most successful advertising campaign to date.

Higher costs to do business usually equals higher prices. And AMD has finally decided they better start to consistently make a profit if they want to stay in business.

Personally, as long as AMD continues to be committed to making the market's best chips, I don't mind paying a higher price.

But ah yes, I can hear the cries of "price gouging" from the great unwashed already.

EDIT: for spelling.
