AMD Adopts Headspreaders (again)

That looks great. Less people will break cores, which has been a gripe of some for a long time.

I wouldn't exactly be counting on this being true (until we hear about it at a more reliable source)... Something just doesn't look right about it.

I don't know about you guys but I looked at the pictures and it seems a bit faked.

For instance why is the heatspreader at the same level as the green stuff (the packaging material) ?

Isn't it supposed to be a bit raised? Like the ones on the P4 and the Clawhammer?

You really don't hear much about chipped cores anymore. The early Socket A heatsinks were not the best, and a good deal of them were just S370 adaptations. The newer HSF and clip designs have really cut down on people chipping the core. I really can't recall any recent threads about chipping cores...

Ya I think I agree....I was looking at them again and the one with the spreader is a 1800 model but it's an AX....thoroughbreds are supposed to be AXDA.

They're fake. Just open the pic up in photoshop and zoom in really close on the writing. You can see very clearly it was pasted on. They did a decent job however.

First thing I noticed was that the IHS is the size of the pcb. Add in the fact that the "AMD" logo is raised lettering, which would make a not-so-good surface for the hs.

I'm convinced it's just a Photoshopped P4.
