New slogan?

Opteron: When your reqirements are so low, any old CPU will do?

To AMD's credit, the only thing Intel has that is both price and performance (in terms of electricity usage) competitive with AMD's low-end chips is the Intel Atom lineup, and Atom's server performance is an absolute joke.

Stop giving amd any credit. To the enthusiast there products suck

I know of no "server admins" actively buying servers with AMD processors in them. They exist, I know, AMD has something like 13% of the marketshare, so someone is buying them. I just don't know who those people are.

edit: looks like 5.5% now, not 13%

I bought a dual socket Dell server with 2x4 core AMD processors in it. But I was looking for the ability to slap 12 3.5 inche drives in a 2U server and it was the only option they had at the time. The processors were irrelevant he he

Beta October, available November.

It may be a tired refrain, but we told you this would be happening, and it did. It will be followed up by APU variants of Opterons, quite likely a 2x 17W Trinity board. That is where the cool stuff starts, high density GPU compute machines are what many HPC customers have wanted for a long time. Let the fun begin.S|A

However Intel's 2P server with relatively higher RAS features is nearly at the same price of the AMD's 4P server....And of course AMD has better performance in this situation and, I guess, RAS features that's better than which in E5 series(but absolutely inferior to E7).
