Not to start a debate, but heres to hoping for a decently competitive part from AMD. Competition is good, and is always rewarding for the consumer. Look at the Video Card Market.

This seems to be the time to pick up a PhII 955 if you have a need for one. $81 seems dirt cheap.

The announced starter price for the new proc doesn't bode well for much of an improvement.

The new prices make the older parts more competitive at their price point though.

i've given up hope on AMD CPUs. i'll be surprised if PD matches Nehalem in gaming.

Yeah because nothing motivates your engineers to out-innovate the competition like giving them 1/6 the resources and hanging the constant spectre of looming loss of employment over their heads.

As was the case with the USA's steel and auto industries, AMD needs Intel to do two things in order for the 800lb gorilla to be toppled by the 150lb David...Intel needs to become unionized AND its executive management need to become ridiculously greedy and absorbed with concerns of personally enriching themselves at the expense of running the company well.

Both are still possible, time will tell if they happen soon enough to be significantly relevant changes to AMD's future though.

If they would stick to their version of tick-tock and release products on time, they have at least a fighting change. Im hopefull for PD, as test by other websites have shown, it is no doubt an improvement over BD in IPC, and should have more overclock room.

Phenom 2 was more than a worthy improvement over Phenom 1. I'm going to get a head start on AMD FX Vishera / Piledriver if it turns out not to be.

I somehow doubt it will be an Intel destroyer, but if they manage to fix some of the problems with Bulldozer, I think it will be good for AMD. Honestly, if they can be competitive with Intel without having to cut prices by significant amounts.

I'm just hoping they can be better then the PhII's. Hell I have 5 systems running that want be be upgraded but BD just isn't a viable upgrade over what they have.
