If anything, the review made me more inclined to get a 6550. I've been burned by "sure thing" overclocks before.

Issues with reading aside, the key to this is really a matter of understanding perspectives. The review was of an AMD proc and takes the perspective of an AMD user. Given that, it's helpful to provide use a yardstick for comparison, and since tech media has focused mostly on Intel the last fifteen months, comparing to a stock Intel (whose performance will be pretty standardized) is a great choice. What does this review do for an Intel user? Nothing. What does this review do for an AMD user who was considering an upgrade before Phenom? It tells them that the best AMD has to offer right now is still barely entry-level Intel stuff.
