The cost is about the same at fry?s but which is the better buy.

I am not up with the latest CPU?s.

I use the computer for many different programs, Video, VB.net studio, DVD burning.

I do have dual monitors so I tend two have many things running at the same time

I am not a big gamer; something like Call of duty 2 is the best game so far.

The age old ? AMD or Intel..........

AMD A64 3200+ B 939 $143

MSI RX480 Neo2-F MB
Radeon X200p, DDR400, GBLAN, 8ch sound, 1(x16) PCIe, 1PCIe. $71
Total $214

OR

Intel P4 Dual Core 2.6 (I forget what #) $100

Asus P5RD1 Dual Core Board $100

Total $200

Should I stay Or should I go now..... Single core or dual core?

I'd go for the 3200+, but what are the prices? You could probably get a 3700+ San Diego online for a little bit more.

Sounds like you might benifit from a dual core. If you plan to overclock at all though you'll need a very good cooler, because the smithfields are twice the flamethrowers as prescotts. My 805 hits 57c on water cooling @3.7ghz.

are you talking about the PD 805? if you plan on multitasking gaming photoshopping and the works, then by all means go for the Pentium D....if its just gaming with a little bit of other things on the side, then the AMD is good for you.

Well the 805 and the 900 series are.

805 is only a good overclocker if you can keep it cooled mine is at 57c on water cooling @3.7ghz, 9xx series only overclocks well on expensive motherboards.

I wish AMD would release a really cheap X2 to compete with the 805, but it's a bit late for that now with AM2 around teh corner.

I'd go with the 805.

As long as your Dual core doesnt have the digits "820" in it might as well go for the Intel over the single core AMD.
