AMD A10-5750M ES Richland APU review (unlocked!)

This guy got his hands on an unlocked A10-5750M ES 🙂.
Review link. He managed to OC it to ~3.2Ghz constant clocks.

He measured performance at stock vs 4600M , older Trinity and ULV intel part. Power draw measurements are there and also temperature measurements. Gotta say this ES performs great , especially when OCed. Too bad there is no such part in retail for notebook computers.

Yes, it's not posted on a website but that doesn't make it any less of a review than any other. It's a user review and done fairly well.

Cool review. I wonder how much headroom there is in the typical notebooks power delivery. The review mentioned the ES system spiked to 88W - which could put the actual power draw of the APU itself at around 70W maybe. I wonder how many notebooks are equipped with vrms that could actually handle that, even if it is only for short periods.

Typical notebook also comes with a 70w power adapter.

Yeah only ES are unlocked. But I wonder why shouldn't be possible to use max. turbo multiplier for OCing? 5750m has max. 3.5Ghz turbo clock for ST workloads so in theory the multiplier is available. Problem is there is no software for OCing Trinity/Richland as far as I know.

As for GPU, something odd was going on with his sample as it was sometimes slower than 4600m he owns. Maybe driver issues or Turbo core was functioning abnormally. GPU clock should also be unlocked on that ES but pushing both CPU and GPU would probably overstrain the VRMs on the board as they are not designed for such a power draw level.

Llano @ 3ghz is better still.

Trinity/Richland has been a total snooze-fest compared to what it replaced.

I won't be able to get my friend a significant upgrade for the 3ghz A8-3500M I ordered for him until at least kaveri.

Yeah but even with this "awesome" chip, many games are not exactly what I'd call "playable" with an average of 28fps. Sure a few of them will tun at 50+ on medium, but who wants to game on medium unless they have to?

Don't get me wrong, in a pinch this is still great, and very useful to have at least some gaming capability without a dedicated card.

And for people with mATX cases it is often the only gaming they'll ever have till they get another PC. But I am looking forward to the day when APUs have performance equal to that of 7770.
