AMD 975 heat question

I've recently started to pay attention to heat from my AMD 975 3.6 quad core.
I have Cool n Quiet disabled so its at 3600mhz full time.
Idle its around 40-41C
While gaming (WoW, Skyrim, AvP, SWTOR) its around 50-55C
Prime95 running for about 15mins knocks it up to 60-63C.
Using stock cooling...
I use CPUID HWMonitor to watch temps.
I'm trying to figure out if these temps are about normal for this particular chip.
Should I be worried this summer when my room will probably be considerably warmer.
I just bought this chip, hearing its generally better for gaming than the FX6100 I was thinking about. But with these temps, kind of knocking around the idea of getting an FX chip anyway =(

Rest of my rig is as follows.
Asus Sabertooth 990FX
Corsair 8gb DDR1600
650watt psu
ATi 7950.

Well you really have no reason to disable C&C, you should be able to get that idle down to the low 30's with it back on. The clocks ramp up rather aggressively so there isn't any sort of performance benefit of keeping C&C off anyways. I have a C2 955 running at 3.7 (with a cooler master hyper 212+ with a push-pull fan setup) at stock volts and I idle in the high 20's~low 30's and max out around 52. It's been quite some time since I was running stock cooling so I can't quite remember what the temps were like. However, I would highly recommend a 212+ and you should be able to get over 4.0ghz with your setup running one. For gaming, this would absolutely trounce a FX6100.

OP AFAIK 60C is too hot for a Phenom II.

You would definitely benefit from a Cooler Master Hyper 212+. They are around $20 and are well worth their price.

Don't bother with the new Bulldozer FX chips as they will perform about the same as your current setup. If you do anything, sell your entire rig and get a 2500K setup.

Not sure I have room in my case for that HS.
Any other suggestions for one that say doesn't require taking the mobo out and attaching funky mounting plates to?

Why?

I understand disabling it can be beneficial for overclocking, but you aren't. If you enable it your temps should go down, even in game, as very few games will load all 4 cores, the idle cores can clock down and reduce your thermals.

You can go up to 62C on a Phenom II, often they run that hot on the stock heatsink. However that stock heatsink will get loud at those temps.

For a great aftermarket cooling solution that doesn't require you to take out the motherboard to mount it, consider this:

COOLER MASTER Hyper TX3 RR-910-HTX3-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" 92mm CPU Cooler

You won't find really anything better without having to take out your motherboard for $19.99 and free shipping.

It will significantly lower your temps.

Think that heatsink will have enough room in this rig? Here is a picture. Im worried about how close my ram sits to the cpu.

TX3 really isn't very large:

I don't think it'll be an issue.

If you've got 160mm of clearance you could get a CM Hyper 212, which is a much more capable cooler. Of course, this would require taking out the motherboard.

Although installing a cooler with a custom backplate is intimidating at first, once you've done it you'll wonder how you ever tolerated push pins or AMD's spring loaded system.

Yeah.why would you disable it? The pheonom already eats up watts like hotcakes

I would also suggest going the Hyper 212+ route. If you have a 120mm exhaust fan then the 212 will surely fit. It's one of the smaller heatsinks using 120mm fans. I installed one in my brother's Cooler Master Gladiator 600 and it's on the small side as far as ATX cases go.

TX3 works well, and should fit in most cases. The 212 is also too large for my case (or would be very, very tight), which is a standard width mid-tower. I have about 1" clear from the top of the TX3 to the side of my case. It's not as good as the 212, but it lowered my temps 15-20C from the Intel stock cooler. I also didn't want to remove my motherboard to install it, so the pushpin mounting (for my chip) or the standard clip bracket mounting for AMD chips make it easier to install on an existing system.
