AMD 8-series chipset ?

Has anyone heard anything on this?
will it mostly be a southbridge upgrade, or will performance be affected also ?

thanks

Yea but something worth to keep an eye on. I mean SB800 brings alot of things like native gigabit controller, SATA3, and so forth. I wish AMD could release this platform alot earlier than those rumoured dates, but sadly, AMD doesn't quite have a good track record with release dates..

Well, the onboard video is in the Northbridge, and there's a possibility the new 800 series Northbridge will be released sometime in 2Q '09, but paired up with the existing 700 series Southbridge.

Personally, I'm hoping that's what AMD chooses to do (and makes known somewhat soon), as I've got 4 builds sort of just hanging out there that would be perfect with 800 series video performance.

Granted, I'd love for the 800 series Southbridge to be released in 2Q '09 as well (assuming of course the Northbridge even launches then), however, if it's not ready, hopefully AMD doesn't make us wait for the Northbridge until the Southbridge is ready.

SB8xx Southbridge Enhancements

Because we all need 16 USB devices 😀

It's a decent evolution, actually. Should improve I/O performance and power efficiency.

I've no clue as to the technical aspects of the clock integration but if it builds on the timing improvements of sb750 I'm all for it .....

My first MB with USB had 2 ports, I couldn't imagine ever needing more than that. Today I think I'm using 8 lol. Hell I never thought I'd need even 3, let alone 8. But 16 seems a bit excessive. I know I didn't think I'd ever be using 8 but I can't ever ever ever see myself using 16. lol
