AMD 785g/4200 monitor on DVI and HDMI question

Hey guys I just built a new rig for my parents.

What I am trying to do is make it a HTPC as well to run Media center, I got the TV hooked up via HDMI and The monitor by DVI but audio over HDMI is not detected and the TV runs at the monitors resolution ( this is fine really) but the sound does not work. If I unplug the DVI monitor it works perfectly.

Can you only run HDMI or DVI one monitor at a time? VGA and HDMI would work fine right? I will get a VGA monitor later to day to test just making sure.

I thought those boards only had a single digital output, so that you couldn't use HDMI and DVI at the same time. How did you do that? Do they display different screens, or the same screen?
