AMD 780G integrated gfx

OK guys, gonna upgrade now. Only i had some unexpected bills so i can only upgrade partly right now.

Im going for the X3 8650 with an AMD 780G chipset, with integrated gfx. Then im gonna buy the rest (incl. gfx card) next month.

Would
X3 8650 + AMD 780G + 2 Gigs DDR2 800

perform better than

Barthon 2500+ + GeForce 7600GT + 1 Gid DDR400

in 3D games at 1280?

If not im not gonna bother ordering just yet.

Hard to say. On one hand, I'd like to say yes, the new CPU, more memory and good chipset will give you a serious boost in performance. Your day to day usage will be tremendously faster over the old Barton chip. But, the HD3200 onboard the 780g isn't quite the performer compared to other options out there. I can play CS:S on my #2 system (780g, 4850e cpu) with 30-80fps consistently. Totally playable. TF2 is quite playable too. But the settings have to be adjusted accordingly and for other more demanding games, you're definatley going to have to fiddle with settings to get the game to run a a good frame rate.

Since you're gaming at 1280x1024, it really might not be so bad. How long will you have to wait until you upgrade the video card? If it's only a month or so, I'd say go for it. If it's going to be a long time, tough call.

I can't help but think that your Barton chip and only 1GB of ram would be a serious detriment to good gaming performance, though. What games do you normally play?

I play mostly World of warcraft and will begin with Warhammer online this month. Im not playing super demanding games like crysis, doom3 and stuff like that. Not until im done upgrading that is.

The rest will arrive next month.

Oh, in that case, you should be fine. THe 780G is MORE than capable of handling WoW. A month is a short time to wait. 🙂

Any reason you couldn't use 7600GT with the new rig until you get a graphics card? I'd expect reasonable performance in your target apps if you went that route.

i have a phenom 9550 @ 2.8 with a 780G that we used as a 5th computer for a LAN last night.

Played GRID, Unreal Tournament 3, Trackmania United Forever, Spore, ect.
Of course you have to turn down settings, but for a basic machine, its really not all that bad (had to take the 8800 out for a friend to use, his card blew)

That's interesting. The NV6150 integrated graphics is NOT enough for WoW, I get 15-18 FPS mostly.

Oh, dude, Larry, the HD3200 on the 780G completley destroys the 6100/6150.

WoW is much more dependent on cpu/ram than gpu power. The boost in cpu/ram will probably more than offset any slowdown seen from the IGP vs 7600GT (which may not be much, imo).

Could you throw in a 4670 for $80? Per the AT review that looks to be an absolute price/performance killer compared to what else is available out there (and pretty good performance overall to boot).

That's good to hear, I bought a 780G as a replacement for the 6150. 🙂

Yeah, like the others said, the HD3200 graphics blow away the Nvidia 6100 graphics. Should be enough to tide the OP over until he gets his new graphics card 🙂

Congrats. I'm sure you'll be happy with your new hardware. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how fast it is. I know I love my 780G box.
