They said 3+, you arent getting more than 3 monitors out of those 580s.

Thats why I said surround.

I would like to see 4 way sli gtx580's 3gb's vs quadfire 6990's on 3, 30 inch monitors.

Actually someone has done quadfired 6970's but most of the tests failed and the trifire gtx580 3gb setup beat its arse with 3 30 inch monitors.

It was on one of the forums.

According to our very own Anandtech review, the 6990 is also the loudest card they have on file. It's louder than every SLI configuration on load too. That's a huge turnoff for me.

You also said the statement was false, when it wasn't as the were talking about 3+ monitors.

The 6970s failed cause the crossfire crossfire connectors didn't provide enough bandwidth, Fail on AMDs part there. When they didn't they were right with the 580s and sometimes beating them.

That was tri-fire vs tri-sli.

The 6990 doesn't seem to have that problem.

Probably sounds that loud if your ears are against the desktop.

Other reviews seems to vary in terms of sound, I'm waiting on a friend of mine who is a insane PC enthusiast to confirm.

Since there is no single standard for measuring the noise from graphics cards, it's impossible to really compare across sites. Some are using A weighted ratings, others unweighted. Some @ 75cm, some closer. I have little doubt that the card is loud. We're talking a lot of heat that needs to be dissipated and blowers aren't exactly the quietest fan type.
