The fact that such obvious marketing is taking place is seriously questioning my participation on this forum.

nV marketing has been witch-hunted here, yet AMD marketing is par for the course. Sad.

Honestly when Bulldozer comes up short, and AMD is purchased by somebody else or restructured...I will not feel bad.

Translation: I don't like that people are saying Nvidia has had a bad go of it lately and that the GTX590 has significant downfalls compared to the 6990... so I'm taking my ball and going home.

This is an online discussion forum. You're going to get a lot of different view points. If you can provide examples of AMD sponosored marketing in this forum, I'm sure we'd all love to see it.

It appears that the Crysis 2 DX11 patch may be released tomorrow, according to a twitter and heavy rumors. If this is so, Crysis 2 may give us an indication which card is the fastest DX11 card in the world. I'm anxious to see what the patch will do - and whether Fermi or Cayman can clearly stand out from one another in the biggest AAA (soon-to-be) DX11 game ever released.

wtf, crysis2 is a joke for PC gamer, actually i don't understand nvdia motive to give $2 million for console port,

Crysis was a joke to some based on many views it was too much of hit to really enjoy with settings maxed

Crysis 2 was a joke to some based on many views because it isn't much of a hit with settings maxed!

nVidia invests resources to create more awareness for nVidia, Crysis2, DirectX 11 and PC gaming but some may say this is a joke, too!

Formulation: Some PC gamers and enthusiasts are extremists and no matter what one does things are a joke or turd.

the fact is crytek said it will bring crysis 2 to the new level of graphic but when it launch its still on DX 9, hell even original crysis have DX 10 in it, thats why its a joke, (a really bad and sad joke).

to be honest, i really want to buy crysis2 at launch, hell if it was run better on nvdia card and have state of the art graphic i will buy nvdia graphic also, but right now crytek have disappointed me

why is everyone getting so wound up about directx. why does the game need to be directx 12 for the graphics to look good?

it was shown that crysis in dx9 looked just as good as dx10. there are plenty of other games where dx10 and 11 provide a marginal upgrade to dx9, most of the time by adding one or two features, and there are a number of older dx9 games that are graphically more impressive than newer dx11 games.

directx means nothing, as a matter of fact if everything you want can be done in dx9, you'd be a fool to release your game in dx11 only and restrict your software to 10% of potential customers.

if the game sucks it's because of other reasons.

Actually, dx10 can show image improvements over dx9. I remember playing Lost Planet and the Fur/Lighting quality was Very noticable. Especially the Fur quality (Like on their coats and such).

So when it comes to image quality, the dx features can definitely matter.

It hows the developer use those features that determine how big/little the quality will be.

I think there are some differences.

With Crysis, Crytek locked many features out of DX9 by default that you found in DX10. Once you enabled them via system.cfg changes in DX9 they began to look very similar.

Regardless, Crysis in DX9 with the system.cfg tweaks is still leagues ahead of Crysis 2 in DX9. Not only are the graphics and textures just awful in C2, but the entire physics engine found in Crysis is gutted in Crysis 2 and there are no more destructible environments.

Cross your fingers the fabled DX11 patch coming from Crytek includes better physics and not physx ():)

Looks like AMD is getting cute now.

Lol @ the AMD faster than fastest ... In the end that's all there is to say anyway.

Can't wait for a non-reference 590 with 1 kilowatt max power draw -- (yeah that should equal to a 580 OC SLI right) - then nVidia will be able to say : "faster than the card that's faster than the fastest card in the world, that those red dudes built"

Do you think they have enough of these cherry picked GPUs to last so that they have a chance to make non-reference cards?

I think 700W should cover it, a single "properly designed" 590 that is.

EDIT:
Can you see the 4 PCIE-8pin connectors on top of it?

Over a wide selection of games and at resolutions people actually play at (1680x1050, 1920x1200 and 2560x1600) there isn't a dimes worth of difference between the two cards. There isn't.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GTX_590/23.html

But didn't you get the memo? These cards are ONLY for people who want to play at 2560x1600 or higher, DON'T want to play 3D, and who want to overclock to massive levels. Nobody else buys these cards. :ninja:

The problem with 590 is not the maximum performance level, its the price you pay for it. Personally I can't afford a new $700 card every month...

You dropped $1k on the CPU alone and $1.4k on the two HD6990s. You could drop the same money on 2x GTX590 and get pretty much the same performance (unless your cards would die :p). So what's the problem? You would spend the same amount and get very similar results.

People going from a HD6990 to a GTX590 or the other way round thinking they will get better performance, because the camp's PR team says so, are probably not really sane in the first place.

The problem is that I can spend $1500 on 2 6990s which will last me next 3 years, but I cant buy a new GTX590 every month...

Yuk Yuk Yuk :D

Seriously though, nvidia will sort it out. Hopefully it won't end up so bad that they need to do a recall though...

You see, I have a B.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering, an M.Sc. in Physics and I work an an Instrumentation Engineer. As the result of all that I bought 6990 not because I like one team better than the other, but because when I saw 580 specs I knew that 590 can not be a high end consumer card and still perform as well overall. The AMD has a fundamental advantage, lower power consumption this is why it is very hard if at all possible for NVidia to compete. There are many things that can be done to make 590 a better card, better voltage regulators, better drivers/bios, better cooling (water); and even, out of PCIe spec power draw from 3x8-pin connectors, but the problem is, I knew none of this would happen on reference design, and I don't want to have to dremmel off chunks of the card to beef up its power circuit... This is why I bought 6990s and this is why I make fun of 590... 590 can be so much more, than it is. I think Nvidia will have very hard time from this point forward, competing for high end card market, because their building block is just too inefficient.
