AMD 6870 Adapter Question

I just purchased a HDTV and want to connect it to my 6870.

I currently have both DVI connections occupied with 2 desktop LCDs.
I plan on getting a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter for the HDTV.

Does the adapter have to be active, or will a regular one work?
Basically I want all 3 displays on at once (not eyefinity).

The adapter will have to be active. You can use two displays to any of the DVI ports and HDMI but not all three at the same time.

I would recommend using the native HDMI for the TV and then an active mDP to DVI adapter like http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-0.../dp/B004071ZXA.

I didn't realize I had a HDMI connection on the 6870. I just assumed 2 DVI & 3 mDP.
Thanks for clearing that up. I'm all set now, as I have that active adapter already.
