AMD 64x2 socket ?

No, AM2 isn't compatible with S939 and vice versa.
IIRC, there are 940 pins in AM2-layouts.

However, if you come across a good deal on an AM2+ or AM3 board, your CPU should work with it. Double check the specs on the manufacturer's site before you buy, just to be sure. 🙂

AM3 CPUs work in AM2/AM2+ boards, but AM2 CPUs do not work in AM3 boards.

Edit: When I say "AM3 boards", I mean TRUE AM3 boards, which only have DDR3 slots. The AM2 CPUs only have a DDR2 memory controller, which makes them incompatible. AM3 CPUs have both DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers, which is why they can work in both AM2+ (DDR2) and AM3 (DDR3) motherboards.
