So Fry's has that pretty decent deal of getting the 3800+ X2 EE + mobo for like $89.

I have a DFI LanParty NF4 Ultra-D and I figured this would be an inexpensive upgrade. Just wondering if there was any reason the new 65w EE chips won't fit in my board. Should be the same right? socket 939 just w/ better effiency.

Also, will this be an upgrade from my current AMD 64 3000+? I know clockwise it's fairly close, but will dual core make a noticable difference? I'm runnin WinXP, 1gb ram 6600GT.

Any X2 will be a significant upgrade from a single core. Keep in mind, there exists both socket 939 and socket AM2 X2 processors. Before you buy, be certain that the processor is 939. I was not aware that they made the energy efficient models in 939, so be extra careful.

Hmm......didn't even know that. Thanks, I will double check before I buy.

Your Ultra-D is a Socket 939 motherboard, and AMD's new processors like the EE models are for Socket AM2, so they won't work.

You can get an X2 3800+ for Socket 939, but you need to be careful and check whether the processor is 939 or AM2.

ok, thanks for the clarification.

I'm gonna go check in a bit at Fry's, but I'm pretty sure it was a new Energy Efficient chip, so AM2 socket.

darn, was hoping this would be an easy upgrade.
