AMD 64 X2 3800+ ? Difference between Toledo and Manchester Core?

Can somebody help me determine the difference between the Toledo and Manchester core for the AMD64 X2 3800+?

I've searched around the web and found an excellent article over at lost circuits that goes on and on about how "GREAT" the new AMD64 X2 3800+ CPU is with the Manchester Core. I go to a few of my favorite online shops and it appears all they have are the Toledo core chips. I then jump over to the AMD website and I do find two different products, one with E6 stepping, the other with E4 stepping, but neither mention the code-name of the core. I would THINK the E6 stepping would represent the newest and best chip, is that hte Manchester?

Your help would be greatly appreciated in this manner!

E6 = Toledo
E4 = Manchester

Both OC very well.

My personal belief though is that alot of the X2 3800+ Toledos are cache-failed 4400+, which theoretically would make them better OCers.

Here's some more info:

More detailed info from AMD.com:

Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core
Model 3800+
Ordering P/N (Tray) ADA3800DAA5CD
Ordering P/N (PIB) ADA3800BVBOX
Stepping E6 - Toledo (half cache disabled)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Details
Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core
Model 3800+
Ordering P/N (Tray) ADA3800DKA5BV
Ordering P/N (PIB) ADA3800BVBOX
Stepping E4 - Manchester

Detailed info from The BalusC Server:

X2 3800+ Toledo
OEM: ADA3800DAA5CD
BOXED: ADA3800CDBOX

X2 3800+ Manchester
OEM: ADA3800DAA5BV

Sweet!

Thanks for the quick answer... So let me ask you this... If you were to buy one, which one would you buy, and also, power consumption is important to me, do you think the Toledo is every bit as good in terms of efficiency as the Manchester? Better.... Worse??

Thanks!

Actually, I've bought from mwave many times and prefer them. They have the X2 Toledo for $350.50 and I woudl presume shipping would probably run $10 or less. So that's a better deal anyway.

In case you hadn't noticed my signature, i already have a Toledo X2 3800+

The Toledo die size is also slightly larger than the Manchester, so once again, theoretically, they would have better heat dissipation, or simply put, better temps.
There's really no proof of that, though.

If given a choice, i'd take the E6/Toledo, but since both OC very well, i wouldn't worry much about which one you get.

harobikes333: You can get Toledos here: http://www.tankguys.biz/athlon64-3800-socket-toledo-core-p-1369.html

They are out of stock presently, but more are en route apparently.

tankguys ftw :)

guarantee you the core and great service

my brother got a 3800 from zzf that was supposed to be a manchester that came in as a toledo. someone it hot deals said the ordered what they thought was a toledo and got a manchester. still seems to be a bit of confusion among the retailers.

Damn, when did you get an X2? :p

I never even saw you mention it.

What vcore is it on to get 2.7 GHz?

Well, I'm not sure why one would order the part from TangGuys when they are $10 more than mwave.com and evidently $8 more than NewEgg and they don't have them in stock.

I'm not so sure though that Toledo marks a "step up" in terms of processor design and performance, particularly when dealing with heat disapation, etc.

Look at this article

http://www.lostcircuits.com/cpu/amd_x2-3800+/

It clearly goes on to show the manchester ccore to be the coolest running core and if you flip to the page that says "power consumption" you can see the Toledo don't seem to perform as well in the heat/power category (am I missing something here?)

Just food for thought.... Maybe I'll email the guy and ask him over at Lost Circuits.

zzf doesn't say what core you're getting so some got manchester and some gets toledo... i order mine 9/9 and got manchester.. prices drop 9 bucks after that and most of the guys got the toledo..

still pretty good deal.. though im using my on server, i wont risk overclocking it..

Yes, but they didn't test the 3800.

They tested the higher end Toledos, which have 2x1 MB cache, & higher clock frequencies, so of course they will be hotter & consume more power.
