AMD 64 vs. Dual Core for business work

I currently have an AMD Athlon 64 3500 processor. My work is strictly business and photography related (such as Corel graphics, statistical analysis, Photoshop). Since a crash has necessitated a reinstallation, I am considering upgrading my processor to an X2 (maybe a 3800 or 4400) in preparation for Vista 64.

So I am wondering if a dual core processor will provide much performance improvement in this kind of situation. Any comments will be appreciated.

For what it's worth, I notice a large difference while multi-tasking. In fact, I can run two instances of my statistical software for bootstrapping (one for each core). I would recommend anyone upgrading at this point to go dual core, especially for the applications you've mentioned. Gamers can achieve better price-to-performance from single core CPUs, but that will soon change as future games and patches take advantage of multi-core systems.

My 2 cents.:)

Dual Core all the way!!

Dual CPUs are the best for working as nobody really only does one thing at a time on a computer (well i don't :) ) dual core helps alot.

Thanks for this information. It was my inclination to go with a dual-core, and now I feel confirmed in that. Maybe my crash was a godsend in disguise, and the universe truly is unfolding as it should!

Best regards,
