Asus K8N
512mb*2
120sata
17"flat samsung 793mb
altec lansing 251(5.1)

My comp engineer says that i need min 1kva ups.
Is it true?

I am going for 400watts ps?

Can i not go for 2 ups of 600va?

Are you under some sort of money constraint, or do you just not want to spend the money?

If you don't want to spend the money, then don't. If something with your machine goes wrong... your friend will always be able to say, "I told you so."

i live in a poor developing country india where many componenets are more expensive than that of US and the standard of living and money eanred by people in US is at average much higher.

I want a system in Rs.50000 and for UPS i have about 3000+- left and I think I need to increase that.

I have a 500 VA UPS and it's more than sufficient for me to shut down my computer if there's a power failure. I have an overclocked A64 with overclocked RAM and an overclocked 6800GT and two hard drives, 2 optical drives, a 17 inch monitor... if you're on page 2 of a 10 page document you're writing and want to finish it if the power goes out, you're going to need more power. But even a 500 VA UPS gives me AT least 5 minutes to shut down, and that's more than enough.

I will also have 5.1 surround sound system,altec lansing 251,samsung 17" crt flat 793mb
and computer using 400watts ps

Can i make do with 600watts power supply with 5min backup?
Will ups of a local company do?
will that of microtek do?

Most UPS's have two sections... one for just surge protection, and the other for uninterrupted power... put the speakers on the surge protection only part... along with printer... cable/dsl modem... router... etc. etc.

Only the essentials or things that can be damaged by cutting power to them should be hooked up to uninterrupted power.
