im a pretty big noob when it comes to this.

ive got an amd 64 3200+ precessor on my laptop, but when i go to control panel>system, how come it only shows my processor speed as 637 mhz? im pretty sure my laptop is way faster than that.

thanks.

edit: am running on power supply, not battery.

thats saving power and lower the heat. all laptop procs do it these days, especially when on battery. You dont want your proc running at full speed when you are sitting there playing solitare on battery, do ya? That would kill you battery in no time. The laptop is fine

Its probably cool&quiet kicking in. It throttles the CPU down when the extra power is not needed. It is built into all athlon64's, not just the mobile ones.

Ya. It's Cool & Quiet. When I check CPU-Z on my 2800+ laptop, the multiplier goes down to *4 and vCore goes down to 1.075v. My desktop A64 is overclocked, so I have Cool & Quiet disabled in the BIOS.

My 3400+ lappy does the same thing. I think it's pretty beneficial, especially when you're on battery.

yeah, try running prime95 or something, then check again. I'd recommend leaving cool & quiet on in your laptop, although it's often uneccesary on the desktop.

I'm also against disabling cool & quiet on your laptop. Having it throttle down your processor when all you're doing is browsing the web or type up a report saves you battery life. You really don't need multi ghz machines to type up a report or browse the web. I'did disable it on my desktop as it's just not needed and the fact that I'm overclocking my cpu like a mofo. As others have said, try running a processor intensive application like Prime95 and then check to see if the speed goes up to it's rated spec.
