And here come the questions:

I am new to OCing but I know that it should be possible to push this baby to about 2.6 GHz (I've done 2.5 already) but my mobo is giving me crap about the temps. I have the newest BIOS (K893914) and that should fix temp reporting issues but now Soltek HM, Sandra and PC Wiz 05 give me a mere 28C idle and 38C under load while Speed Fan and Everest give me 38C idle and 54C(!) under load. This is when I run them on stock and with my lil 2.4Ghz OC. My personal opinion is, that the temps should be right if i add about 10C to the Soltek HM values but I am totally unsure if that would fit. So I would like to ask you guys what you think about that. Do you have reference temps of 3500+ Winnies clocked at 2.6 with air that are still ok or should I let it be and just continue with the 2.4 OC? Also my system fails to boot if I start it with a 9x Multi which is absolutely strange because I adjusted everything that is needed.

If you could help me out here, I'd be very thankful,

so far ..

38C idle and 54C load sounds right. The other one might be the chipset temp. Use SpeedFan or Everest for checking your temps.

*EDIT* BTW... all that info is not necessary, just list your hardware. The rest is useless and is annoying to have to scroll through to get to your actual question.

It's really going to depend on the MB, almost all read CPU temp differently. I put a Winchie 3500+ on a DFI Ultra-D with the stock cooler and AS5 and the temps were 30C idle, 42C load (prime95). Chassis cooling will have a great effect on CPU cooling too, it should be a main priority to get the heat out.

Full out, the Winchester 3500+ consumes 67watts, the 3500+ Newcastle consumes 89watts. The Win is an excellent processor from a performance/temp standpoint.
