Wow - $78 better than newegg ($329).

I might have to jump on this. Will I notice a huge speed jump from an AMD XP 3200+?

Monarch's had the lowest price on 939 3500s on pricewatch for a while now. Has been hovering around the $260s lately.

Not really worth your time if you are upgrading from a 3200+ a little diference in speed but probably not worth your while.

Has anyone else noticed that Newegg doesn't necessarily have the best price anymore ? I am not saying they are outrageous (or even close to that) ... and their customer service has remained awesome, so I am still buying from them. But lately I have noticed that their prices are sometimes a bit higher than other comparable stores (ZipZoomFly, Monarch, Mwave SVS etc.).

Case in point, I was looking for the Thermalright XP-90 heatsink. SVC had it for $39.99 whereas Newegg wanted $58.99 for it :Q

it all depends on what quantities they purchase in. svc buys large quantities of that particular product and therefore gets larger cuts while newegg may buy less and less often as well.

uhhh.. am i missing something.. yes he will, a huge difference at that

an a64 3500+ vs a XP 3200+

the on die memory controller alone would be a large performance improvement.

for web surfing not too much

... but seeing as you have a game traders site in your sig.. you will notice a huge diference in games so long as your not GPU limited.

my bad, i carelessly misread axp, i thot he was talkin about upgrading from an a64 3200+

anyways, its faster no doubt, but still not HUGE difference, just noticeably faster in most things

a huge difference IMO would be upgrading from a something slow, pentium II to like...pentium 4 or something, otherwise if ur system is already pretty peppy, its just a noticeable difference

That is an excellent price. Maybee it Monarchs way of giving something back, after charging $325 for the Asus A8N Sli Deluxe when it first came out. :)

Competition solely on lowest price has caused the death of many online sellers. I would prefer to have Newegg charge slightly more than the competition if it means that they can maintain their current level of customer service and continue as a profitable concern. Not even Walmart competes on the lowest price model, even though the Walmart marketing machine gives you that impression. Just my 2 cents.

That depends on which application you are talking about. On some, you will notice a difference (I wouldn't call it huge, that is subjective) and on others you won't. If you want "hard numbers", look up benchmarks on the 3500+.

Newegg never had the best price on everything. They usually have a very good price (sometimes the best) and good customer service AND very quick shipping (as in from the time you place your order till they ship it out, you can choose which shipping service you want).

I still consider them one of the best online component retailers (even though they have been acting like capitalists with the high end video cards lately)

Questions 1 - Doesnt OC'ing void the warranty?

2 - Whats wrong with the 3000+ 's multiplier? Too low?

oc does void the warranty, but how do they know that you did?

the 3000+'s multiplier is too low for ocing at high speeds cuz u need good ram and a good mobo to run high fsb X low multiplier

EXACTLY. I was in the process of getting the balls to buy some new computer stuff, and my intention was to go for the A64 3500+ Newcastle. This came just in time. Possibly better performance with a possibly cooler core for LESS money? I'm on it.

(I read somewhere it has the potential for a 7%-9% increase in performance over the Newcastle, and that the voltage actually creates less heat even taking into effect the lack of heat dissapation... I'm just happy I got a better chip for less ;D)
