It may be an eMachine, but with a AMD 64 3200+ it will still be one of the fastest computers on the block. This gotta hurt Alienware, sure you don't get a snazzy case, but you save $1500. BB link

Sell the ATI 9600 for $100 and pick up a ATI 9800 Pro at CompUSA for $299.99

Total cost: $1499.99

I'm tempted.

I thought AT served the DIY crowd and not the Emachine crowd? That's pretty pricey for a rig without a monitor IMO.

DIY is fun and all...but I've been buying Dells myself recently. The deals are just too good to pass up. :) Used to be sweet to buy a Celeron 300A and overclock it, make your own rig, etc. etc. but now that I'm getting older and lazier these retail deals rock.

Although..$1300 for this rig doesn't light my world on fire. Especially $1500 after the vid card upgrade. :)

We could all build one for a couple of hundred less, but it is a fair price for one of the newest AMD chips. HP has a similar machine with a second 4X DVD+RW/+R for about the same price.

I'm actually gonna wait till the January blowout sales before building. No time before Xmas to build anyway.

That crowd is shrinking :) I know I can't compete with Dell.

I am using an eMachine right now. Really nice.. well built box :D

too bad the HD's, Motherboards and RAM inside most pc's are complete junk...basically the only good thing that they can't screw up is the processor and the network card :)

Not true.

Dells use Intel mobos, and eMachines usually ship with FIC mobos. HPs used to have Asus mobos...

Not that bad anymore.

if they were complete junk, they would have lots of return and warranty claims. Try again

as far as i know...

HP/ compaq uses primarily ASUS, with gigabyte and MSI in some models. Shuttle made it into the d325 work computer.

Sony uses asus

dell uses intel or some sort of special brand made for them (they have the most proprietary systems , some with 5 or 6 slots, etc odd power supply connectors).

emachine uses, gvc , fic, or trigem parts.

some of those medion computers are made by the same people as the hp/compaq btw and so on. pretty much everyone uses fairly decent stuff nowadays, i mean its not worth the cost of support and repair.

plus hard drives all tend to be 7200 rpm as it is now, unless you aren the 250-300gb range.

Just bought a dell2400 for $404 or so - Maxtor ATA/133 HDD, Micorn PC2700 memory, Intel (rebadged) mobo, lite-on CDRW and DVD, TEAC floppy, logitech USB mouse - where exactly is the "junk"? Could it be the keyboard? ;)
