Amd 64 3000+ Overclock - cool and fast :) no over volting

hi all - im a new poster on this forum as you can see

alot of these guides helped me decide what components to buy and how far i should overclock and how so i thought i would share my results and see what you all think!!

i went for the AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester purely because it was under £100 which is dirt cheap - ok its rated at 1.8ghz but we all know thats changeable 😉

Memory i got was Cruicial Ballistix Dual Chan 1GB PC4000 (2x512) - good price also - overclockers were almost giving these away..

CPU cooler: Zalman CNPS7000B - with 2x 120mm case fans - deltas ( soon to be silents my ears have bled enough)

Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express - excellent price - was on offer and has PCI-E graphics without sacrificing normal PCI slots ( have no need for SLi or pci-e pci slots ) also FSB is 1000 so thats nice

Graphics: PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256MB ( again - was on offer and is a happy medium between performance and budget card)

after reading tons of info i saw that the most extreme overclocks were done with upping the volts on cpu, mem, chipset etc
for me thats not a option - i disagree with pushing more volts to your components and possibly cutting lifespan of them..
so i went for the easy option - max out FSB til it could go no more...

MSI neo4 bios is excellent for overclockign and enabled me to change the cpu fsb to 245mhz...
there was no option to change memory to same (except it stayed at 200mhz) and CL: 2.5 4.4.8 1T

currently at those settings i have pushed it to 2205mhz with no problems, its running at 26C idle and around 28-29 Load ( its freezing outside so air is cold)

HT (mobo multiplier) = x4 (was x5)
HTT (CPU FSB) = 245Mhz (was 200)
CPU Multiplier = 9

im quite pleased with the overclock but im sure i can push it harder without having to up any voltages...
CPU is currently at around 1.44v
memory = 1.75 (cruicial says it can run 1.8/1.85)
and chipset normal..

any comments, questions insults - throw em my way im all ears! or eyes...

Welcome to the AT forums Disco. And props for reading the guide and not posting a ton of threads asking questions that have already been answered by reviews, articles, and threads.

That's definitely a nice overclock (IMHO) for not raising voltages. I'm the same way, I go for what I can get at stock voltages and that's it. Have you run any benchmarks on your system yet? I'd be interested in seeing some SuperPi and Comanche 4 scores. Also, get the beta of EVEREST at Home (it's version 220) and run the memory tests. They are far more trustworthy than Sisoft Sandra.

There's also a Winzip test you could run but I haven't done it myself with my new system so I wouldn't have anything to reference your results to... 😱 🙂

Oh and nice selection on the graphics card. You say it "is a happy medium between performance and budget card" but in reality it's still considered a high end gaming card overall, just on the lower tier of that range. I love mine (AGP version).

il check out bench results tonight and post - at the moment - Farcry works like a dream (cant figure out fps command yet) and World of Warcraft runs at around 75Mhz which is nice...

im also actually thinking of ocing the ati - 500/1000 seems do-able on stock fan from 475/900

500/500 is what I run my card at. Unfortunately there is no radclocker for x64 so my card is at stock speed right now.
