Hi everyone, i just got in on a deal in the "hot deals" forum. A abit kv8 + AMD 64 2800+ + Far Cry (PC Game) all for 223 which includes shipping. I have looked all around for how well the AMD 64 2800+ overclocks and i really haven't found that much. I guess my question is how much has everyone been able to overclock this processor? I know the via chipset on this board limits it because of no agp lock but im hoping i can at least get the processor to 2ghz.

Oh btw...i now have an AMD XP 2100+ overclocked to a 2600+ I forgot what my FSB is but if i remember correctly its in the 160's...maybe 163. Do you guys think purchasing the amd 64 2800+ was a wise choice? Do you think im going to see much improvement Here was my thinking...this processor is on the low end of the socket 754 boards so i have lots of improvement to go without upgrading my whole system. All the way up to a AMD FX-53 currently. I wish i could have afforded one of the socket 939 board and processors but im not going to spend 400+ on just a processor now.

Anways thanks for your time,
Ncage

you can't get an fx-53, FX-53 is a Socket 940 chip, and is now also availible for Socket 939, you have a Socket 754 motherboard, and i don't think AMD will make anything past the 3700+ (latest 754 cpu), or maybe just one or two, but after 939 kicks off 754 is left to rot with sempron

I did the same thing and bought the combo to hold me over till PCI-E goes mainstream and prices come down. I think we can hope to reach speeds of the 64 3000+ but that's about it for this processor and MB.

Am i really going to get that much higher that 2ghz with this processor even if i bought say an NForce3-250 board. I would probably wait to upgrade until abit comes out with a board anyways cause i love thier boards

I got a 2800+ for my XPC, and it overclocks very badly. I get about 1.95ghz with 1.7v. My old mobile 2600(in my mothers pc now lol) did 2500mhz@1.625v. The 2800+ is about as fast for me as my mobile at 2.4ghz, though I suggest you go with a clawhammer, such as the desktop 3200+. They usualy reach about 2.4ghz without going to the extreme on cooling.
