AMD 5670 freezes while running 3D Mark

I just upgraded an ATI 2600 Pro to a HD5670 and I'm having some issues running 3D Mark. The machine just won't get through the benchmark without freezing at some point.

Here are the specs of the machine:
Q6600 @ 3GHz
8GB RAM
DFI P35 motherboard
550W Antec TP2.0 PSU
Sapphire 5670 video card

The previous video card - the 2600 Pro completed 3D Mark06 without a hitch. The new card can't make it through. I've been monitoring GPU temps and it doesn't get over 51C (which is quite good). CPU temps also never get over 47C or so.

I'm running the latest 10.2 Catalyst drivers on Windows 7 x64.

Any idea what the heck is going on here?

Also, for what it's worth, Windows Experience Index rates this card a 2.0 for gaming - which I know isn't correct. I thought this issue was fixed with the latest driver release.

i agree with davey. turn down your settings to stock and see what happens. sounds to me like your psu isn't pushing as much power as what your asking of it. if it works with the tuned down just get a bigger psu.

Turning the CPU down to 2.25Ghz (2.4Ghz stock) doesn't help the situation. The benchmark seems to be freezing earlier and earlier in the run. It now freezes up only 1.5 seconds into it.

It seems like now I'm getting a display driver crash. Here is the error message:

It seems as if something is "hiccuping" during the run, causing driver errors and system lockups.

double check your drivers at that point...amazing what will happen with an outdated driver...
edit-i always tell people to get a psu that is actuallly a step or two higher than what you expect...i started this build with the psu in my signature just to make sure that i wouldn't have power issues...seem to see alot of issues with psu's around 500 watts lately..
