AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced revenue for the fourth quarter of 2010 of $1.65 billion, net income of $375 million, or $0.50 per share, and operating income of $413 million. The company reported non-GAAP net income of $106 million, or $0.14 per share, and non-GAAP operating income of $141 million. The non-GAAP net income and non-GAAP operating income primarily excluded a net of tax gain of $236 million, and a pre-tax gain of $283 million, respectively, that the company recognized related to a patent license and legal settlement.

For the year ended December 25, 2010, AMD reported revenue of $6.49 billion, net income of $471 million, or $0.64 per share, and operating income of $848 million. Full year non-GAAP net income was $360 million, or $0.49 per share, and operating income was $553 million.

"AMD enters 2011 with significant momentum, amplified by the successful launch of our first Fusion APUs," said Thomas Seifert, CFO and Interim CEO. "I am confident we can drive profitable growth based on the strength of new products we will bring to market. Our customers recognize that Fusion APUs are at the core of delivering the world's most vivid digital experiences."

Good to see Net positive numbers for both the quarter and the year for AMD.

Anyone have an opinion on whether the improved net income was a result of Northern Islands or Zacate/Ontario, or both?

They usually post numbers before the call, gives investors a chance to look over them and ask questions relating to them.
Seems like the bulk of the change was GloFo finally not being a drag after many quarters, plus another chunk from some legal settlement or other.

The core businesses (CPU + GPU) are running at the same income/profit level as before, but finally overall results are positive due to GloFo, and they are very positive due to some legal money.

AMD does not give a break down of each product.. they do give a breakdown of different divisions.

GAAP Operating income of $413M in Q4 vs $128M in Q3 and $125M in Q2, I wouldn't call that on the "same level"

All I heard was:
blah..blah...
bulldozer is "on track" for early summer... that means May/June release most likely.
No shortages of anything... (I guess this also means the new 9xx chipsets?)
No news about AM3+...
llano vs SB = "pleasantly surprised" (GPU performance)
lame (zzz) questions being asked... :p
Oh, and the console market is really helping AMD's bottom line.

It's good to see things going well, particularly with the good news about GF.

The next quarter probably won't be too great though since they really don't have anything on the desktop to compete with SB, and I can't imagine that their Bobcat margins are all that great.

Remember, this was the quarter from 9/26-12/25. We're just seeing Zacate devices begin to trickle into the wild now, and we're almost a third of the way into Q1 11, so it's highly unlikely they contributed to Q4 earnings in any significant way.

Dirk has turned the company around. Now they can install some new moron and run it into the ground again.

That's better than not having anything at all plus bobcats market is quite large (notebook and embedded).

They expect this quarter to be about the same as last quarter.

You also have to remember that AMD sells mobile chips to OEMs, not the channel, so they sold all those units that are being built into laptops last quarter...

I'm pretty sure most if not all of their profit can be attributed to the lawsuit they won against Intel.

This is my worry, but perhaps it is unfounded. Other than Hector Ruiz, the other CEO's of the company actually managed to do relatively well. Jerry Sanders helped grow the company into a multibillion dollar a year company, and Dirk Meyer turned the company from a billion dollar a year loser, to one that actually makes a net profit (albeit a small percentage profit, but it still beats the alternative.)

Perhaps the next CEO will be good enough to continue Meyers track of profitability, or even improve on it. Who knows?
