AMD 4200+ dual core CPU $40 shipped

Dayum! X2 prices have really gone through the floor. Wasn't there a deal for an X2 6000+ for around $80 about 1-2 weeks back?
 
wow, I remember when the X2s use to coat in the $700 range and $1000 for the best (X2 4800+) but that was on the 939 platform......
 
Wow, my first PC build was a 939 4200+ X2. I think I paid around 400.00 for it.
This CPU would be just fine for the average PC user. Heck, it would be fine for what I do most of the time, until I do some video work. I'll give the OP two thumbs up and two free domestic beers... :beer: :beer:.......sorry, imported beer is not included in this offer....
 
Brisbane cores overclock nicely. Add the latest AMD integrated video chipset and build a decent rig with an excellent price performance ratio. I just wish they had more cache. Got a pair of X2-4000+ last fall which easily hit 3.1 GHz.

If you had a 4200+ X2 at 3 GHz, and a 6000+ X2 at 3 GHz would the performance difference be about 5% with the larger L2 cache that the 6000+ X2 has?
Yeah I know the 4200+ X2 is a 65nm and the 6000+ X2 is a 90nm.
 
For upgrading a secondary rig with a 3.2GHz Prescott, do you think this/another AM2 processor or an ~E2200 would be a better value, overclocked?

A pittance! 😛 I also have one of those running on a Biostar 690G mobo that I'll be retiring in favor of a C2D E6400 and an ASUS P5B Plus.

An E2200 pistol whips a x2 4200. If you overclock the margin only gets wider.

Still a good deal though if you already have an AM2 board.

The MSI MB that i have is utter shite. I tried ocing before, but it locked up even with minor changes. But for the $120 I paid for it almost a year ago was worth the upgrade from the sempron i was using at the time.

If you can get $25 for my 3600+, then maybe the cost of upgrade of $20 would be worth it!

Need to post a fan deal with this because its the CPU cooler that can break this deal. $7.99 fan with $5.99 shipping on the fan could mean just buy a retail cpu.

Even with the cheapest AM2 mobo your going to be pushing $100 for the mobo+ CPU combo. For a similiar price you can get a C2D setup that has a much more viable upgrade path and better performance.

If you scroll up youll see where I mentioned this is a great deal if you already have an AM2 mobo. But if you have to go out and buy a mobo, not so much
 
All I can say is I hope people still buy AMD chips because if AMD pulls out of the cpu market we are screwed. Intel will capitalize on the market share and bring back those high price tags🙁

EDIT: O.K., maybe if it's 20% faster, than 20% more cost will still work, so please post the link to a $120 C2C internet purchasable motherboard/CPU combo!
