I have been trying to get the most out of this chip for a while now and its getting aggravating.
Its a 3800 x2 toledo, 2x 1gb corsair pc3200, MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum, eVGA 7800GT OC.

Running at 2.5GHz ram at 208.33 HT Link at 1000MHz at 3-3-3-6-1T with vcore of 1.45 i can pass any stress test 24hrs without breaking 41oC max temps (i have a zalman9700NT cooler)

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=209821

highest overclock, unstable in prime95 - locks up about 15mins after use (vcore at 1.55)

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=210009

highest CPU overclock, memory slower for more cpu juice, but still hit barrier. Not stable in prime95 even trying a vcore of 1.6 - locks up after about 10 mins (temps never breaking 52oC)

Do you think i have hit the limit in the chip?? its stable at 2.7GHz with moderately low temps at max load (48oC) But it seems like the chip can give more with the right settings, but it might just be at its limit?

208.33 HT ? how is that possible at 2.5ghz ? Doesn't that require a fsb/ht of 250 ? Which means you gotta put the HT multiplier to 4 instead of 5 ? Did you also try 2t ? Definately pushing your ram to it's limits on the first link, I bet you could losing the timings some more, 4-4-4-12, 2t ? Same for the second link too though, where you obviously use a ram divider. What about giving extra juice to the ram ?

Your temps also look mighty fine, I wonder what tool you using to monitor temps ? Might wanna crossreference it with a different tool ?

the first part

Running at 2.5GHz ram at 208.33 HT Link at 1000MHz at 3-3-3-6-1T with vcore of 1.45

i meant the ram is at 208.33mghz and the HT link is 1000mhz.

I can get the ram a very stable overclock at 1:1 with the CPU FSB to 233, with the ram having an extra .2 volts. at 2.85 and 3-3-3-7-1T

Using the divider i slow the ram to 166 and up the cpu fsb to even 265 i need to push vcore to 1.58 giving me 2.65ghz at 1.58-1.62V vcore, very stable all day in windows, fails prime 95 test in less than 4 mins (but will pass pcmark05) ???? ram running at a lower 220.08MHz with same 3-3-3-7-1T timings at 2.85V

to get past 2.75 i need to up the vcore higher to 1.65

i use various programs to check for temps (to make sure one is not off any)
bios, everest home edition, msi core center, motherboard monitor

at the 2.65GHz cpu and 220Mghz ram stable in windows, but not in prime95 my temps run at 32oC idle and 46oC at 100% load for 30 mins.

System is cool and wont crash, but wont pass prime either... its very monotonous

Ah I misread that somehow ... Sorry for that hehe ...

Well, tbh you've tried pretty much everything I can think of, if you can run at 2.7ghz stable, I would settle for that. Perhaps set back the ram timings way high, to make sure it's not that ya know. But it's not a bad overclock, in fact I hope to be hitting 2.6-2.7ghz myself as soon as my x2 3800+ comes in. I really don't want to be pushing to much vcore though, if I can do 2.6ghz on 1.35-1.45 I will settle for that. There's no way I'm gonna give 1.55 or 1.6v to my cpu.

i should be happy with the stable 2.7 but im in competition with a friend and his Core 2 Duo E6300 topping out at 2.8ghz right now my 2.85 shows him up, but its not stable, thats all im aiming for heh

his e6300 topping at 2.8 ? Damn what a crappy e6300 :p It has you beat benchmark wise though, clock for clock c2d is faster then x2 from AMD.

yea i know clock for clock, especially with mine being a 939 and only pc3200 ram. but being a 2yr old comp to his 4month old i cant complain. benchmarks are mighty close even with me having a 7800GT to his x1950

Don't even bother trying to out-overclock a C2D with an A64. There just isn't enough headroom. Getting to 2.7Ghz is still very respectable for an A64. To get more, you might need an Opty.
