Just built a new system with an Amd 3800+ x2 processor, Gigabyte nf4-ultrad mb, Ati x800xl and a gig of memory. Everything seems to run fine except for games. I have very low frame rates in Far Cry and Doom3. 30-40fps running at 1024x768 with details set to very high in far cry, no AF or AA. I also ran 3dmark 2005 and received a cpu score of 1752. The first cpu test was .7fps and the 2nd 2.1fps. A friend of mine has a P4 3.2HT and he got 1.5fps and 3.0fps on the same test. I started out with an Nvidia 6800gt , but decided this must be my problem and swapped for the ATI which did not help at all. At a lose as to what to do next. I was reading on the amd forums and run accross a few threads where people were having similar issues to mine. I tried several of the things they suggested to no avail.

Please help

Did you install the X2 driver ? or did you try and set affinity ? Read the posts here, ther are many addressing the same issue, and its not an issue, if you just install the correct drivers.

I tried Rope to set affinity and also installed the X2 driver from AMD website. All other programs such as apps run great. It's game that are giving me problem. Not sure what else to do.

Maybe try a repair install if nothing else works. There is already a possibility of driver issues now since you swapped the Nvidia card out for an ATI one.

when you swapped video cards, did you uninstall the old drivers, then run driver cleaner, then install the new video drivers?

Thanks for everyones reply on trying to help me trouble shoot my new system. I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and cleaned them up with driver cleaner. Still did not help. The problem is only with games. I kept a video I captured off my VCR and the old system P4 1.6 it took 9hr 08min to re-encode and with this system it only took 3hrs 28min. Everything is fine accept games. I guess I will reformat and start over again and try that. In Farcry I was only getting 38 f/ps with both Nvidia and the ATI card.

Well here is my update. I done a complete reformat. Installed windows and drivers. Installed Farcry and patchs. Same issues. I get 42 f/ps. If I set the infinity to just one core the research demo drops to 38 f/ps. I am conpletely lost with this one. This is my 2nd AMD system that I put together. After the first one a few years ago I swore I would never put another one together. I have always had good luck with Intel. Well here I am with my 2nd AMD and same old problems. I think it has to be a hardware problem. I don't have another Mb or pocessor laying around so thats kind of hard to trouble shoot. Any one else have any ideas that could be the problem.

PS. Thanks for you help. I can't get nothing out of Gigabyte or AMD. At least Gigabyte has reponsed to my email but AMD has not responed once.

Windows XP SP2
2x512 OCZ Performance DDR 400 (PC3200)

Can you run PCMark2005 and come back with your results? Also, maybe try to give PCMark2002 a shot also. These two benchmarks will give a better idea if the problem is related to your video card or the processor/motherboard/RAM.

Clyde L.,

What are your power supply specs? The +12V is the most important rating, 26A or better is sufficient.

Do you have the most current Bios for your mainboard?

I'm just guessing here but it is possible that your mobo or driver doesn't support cool&quiet well. Have you tried to turn it off in BIOS? Cause it would be a possible explanation to low CPU performance.

Ok not sure if this what you need.

PCMark05 4305
CPU 3895
Memory 1653
Graphics 3729
HDD 5188

Not sure what all this means and there were a bunch of other stuff when I ran the test. Just not sure how to post it on here

The scores are lower than the average but by only like 500 (PCMark05)...Did you try memtest? I really doubt it's the proccessor...

btw, it is a known FACT that ati performs worse than nvidia in Doom 3.

Still trying to figure out why I have this studdering problem when playing games. I have tried the winlauncher and set to 1 cpu and isntalled the X2 drivers etc that everyone has recomended. Here my results of the 3dmark 05. I hope this maybe could tell someone how to help me with my problems.

3DMarks 3922
GTI - Return to Proxyeon 14.4 fps
GT2 - Firefly Forest 12.8 fps
GT3 - Canyon Flight 21.0 fps

CPU Test - CPU Score 2202
CPU Test 1 - 0.9 fps
CPU Test 2 - 2.4 fps

I downloaded the free version of 3DMark and left everything at default. I have been working on this problem for 2 weeks and don't know if I have a hardware or software problem or just missing something on the setup.

Thanks
Clyde

Ok I ran Cpuid and the CPU core speed is 2010.5 MHz and not sure where to find the memory speed. Under the memory tab is say Frequency 201.0 MHz. Is that what you are looking for?

Thanks to all that replyed. I finally found the problem. It was a bad motherboard. It was strange how everything else was fine except getting low frames in game and the bench marks were low. I returned it and got the DFI LanParty nF4-Ultra-D. Kicks butt now.
