well, it's bugging me for awhile. I assembled my comp long time ago, everything is fine, it's OCed to 2.5Ghz, works fine. But when i start or restart computer, it takes some time for windows XP pro to load. it takes from 7 to 15 passing bars (you know while you see win xp screen, the bar goes left to right). I thought it should be faster. is there a problem?
Thanks

virus/spyware on your harddrive might be to blame, try a virus scan or spyware clean. If that doesn;t work, try to eliminate the # of startup programs windows has to recognize. Do this by going to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. Username is the name you use at startup. In that folder, delete all the shortcuts you don't want to run at startup. This should effectively cut your time in half depending on the number of programs you delete.

An easier way is to go to Start->Run->msconfig

Check the Services and Startup tab and turn off individual processes until you find the one that is the problem.

I have the same chip and with my 6 HDs and 2 dvd burners and the many things in startup (NAV, ghost, wi-fi et al) my system boots just after the 5th blue bar which is pretty good IMO. How many thing are starting up on your system?

Oh, I would have said check for new a new BIOS. My comp was having problems when I added in an X2 3800+, but a BIOS update (discovered through a liveupdate program) solved the problem.

doesnt msconfig cause problems

No, it fixes them.

 Reliable way to Safe Boot too, instead of the F8 method where you may get an incredible short window of opportunity for success on some motherboards.
