Exactly.

And I already said that the most "demanding" games I play are games based on the Source engine, which my system handles easily.

Reliability issues aside, I <3 my system as is.

Yea I remember that thread too ,I might of posted there too ,I think that was over a year ago now.
But anyway ,whether his cpu is upto it depends on the game , I doubt that it would be upto the job of running some of the latest games.
IF his cpu is too slow for recent games a new vid card won't fix or 'mask' that.

OTOH if he only plays older games like CS then their is no point at all in getting an expensive new card. 7600GT would do the job nicely.

keep a p4 system for another 3 years? what for? a paper weight? a calculator?
You're overlooking the fact that many people don't play the latest games (or some any at all) or get the latest OSs so yes for office/net use a then ancient P4 will still be useful ,other than being a paper weight;)

Well, I don't have issues with the latest Cats 7.11 or 7.10, there was issues with Cats 7.8 and 7.9 with any X1950 AGP based card, but my girlfriend never had issues with her X800XT PE and any of the mentioned above Cats.
