AMD 3500 or Dual Core Pentium

Thinking about a new computer for work. I current use it for indesign/photoshop etc. From a performance point of view any opinions on a AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500 vs a Dell Machine Pentium 4 dual core 2.8 mhz? Appreciate any suggestions.

I have not done well in the past building systems. At this point I prefer if at all possible just to get a system and upgrade vid card or whatever down the line as needed.
