AMD 3000+ fast enough for Nvidia 6800 Ultra

Is my system with an AMD athlon 64 3000+, 1 gig 3200 RAM, 1 raptor, fast enough for the new video card? Is my CPU going to give this card enough, so that this card is worth it. I will probably upgrade my CPU and mobo in 6-8 months. Should i wait for PCI express. Not interested in SLI. Thanks in advance.

PCI-e and Current AGP are about the same speed. There are no benefits from chosing PCI-e over AGP right now. (Not until the next Generation of Graphics cards come out) I think your AMD 3000 should be plety good enough for the graphics card no worries there.

However I would still save yourself $100.00 and get a 6800 GT instead.

After doing a bit of research, I see that the GT can be overclocked to Ultra speeds. Is this a fairly simple procedure for an intelligent but overclocking-inexperienced guy? Does this depend on (a) power supply -- mine is 400W; (b) processor -- mine is AMD XP-2800+; and/or (c) memory -- mine is 1 GB crucial?

Ultra's probably won't OC very much because they are reaching the limits of the core. I don't know for sure I'm just guessing

i think computer man is right for the reasons ultra's dont oc as much. Just get a GT and save some money. The only reasons that the Ultra's are faster at the same clock speed is that the Ultra's have faster memory (1.6ns) compared to the GT (2.0ns), but when at the same speeds there isnt much of a difference, or at least, not $100 difference...

Also, the smaller cooler and only 1 power connection requirement is a big +!

Bigger cooling is a GOOD thing...Also, I'm pretty sure Nvidia put the extra power connection there a reason
