I've got a AMD2600 Throughbred chip and have just built a new rig on A7N8X MBO.

Using the diagnostic and on post it says it's a 1250Mhz, what gives?

plus i think u mean 2600+... working it out in calculator (lol) it seems you must have a 2600+ with a 166mhz fsb, change the fsb to 166... not 133 and you will get your rated speed of 2083mhz

Thanks guys,

Had a choice of 133 or 166, couldn't resist the 166 first time around, now reading 2600+.

One last question, on the MBO a jumper is set at FSB333/266 by default, other option is FSB200, what the difference?

erm.. if you changed the jumper so it gave you 200.... you would be stuck at 1250mhz until you changed it back (dont think it would allow you to change to 266/333(133/166) in bios then)

Does this jumper not affect the Ram? I'm using "1024 MB DDR-DIMM PC3200 DDR CL2.5 (PC400MHz) ".

If its PC400 does this not mean the FSB200 make full use? or am I talking rubbish?

the 200FSB jumper will set your FSB to 200, which will set your chip to 12.5 x 200 =2.5GHz
it is also called overclocking;)
imo, it is quite hard to reach 2.5GHz

well i doubt it actually means fsb, more like memory bus, fsb would be 100mhz... if you applied your thinking to the other 2 options do you really think you could get a 666mhz bus? :p

To clear the confusion:

The actual Front Side Bus speed is 100/133/166Mhz. But the Athlon is able to write to it twice per clock cycle (that's why it's called DDR - Double Data Rate!), so you effectivly double your speed to 200/266/333 and soon 200/400Mhz. Of course I'm not counting overclocking here, just the default configurations of the Athlon chip line as it has evolved.

It's funny how many people don't know this. And it's even more funny how many people don't know that Intel's 533 Mhz FSB was actually just 133 quad pumped... and that their new 800 Mhz FSB is just 200 quad pumped.

my friend who is quite intelligent, can't let go of the concept " it says 533fsb, so that is what it is"
I think I have him turned around now, after tatooing it into his forehead backwards:p

just ask him to take the divide clockspeed from the multipier and see if he comes up with 533 or 133. ;)

had to show him multiplier first;)
he was a "default, is there anything else?" guy
