I'm about to purchase a AMD 2600+ XP mobile and I would like to know how you can tell what "stepping" the cpu is? The stepping (IQYHA) is supposed to be the best, is there a list that shows all the different stepping in order? Should I just order a 2600+ and hope for the best or should I call around and find a dealer that sells the IQYHA, is there that big of a difference? Also my ram is PC2700 and most people are overclocking the 2600 using 200x12 can I try and go over 167mhz?
Thanks

Depends on how well the RAM can be overclocked. I ran cheap pc2700 @ pc3200 with 11-3-3-2.5 w/o having to up the voltage for a while.

Are you going to be overclocking the 2600 mobile? If so, I'd suggest selling the RAM you have and buying some performance (OCZ, Mushkin, Corsair) 3200/3500/3700 RAM, as you will want to raise the FSB and the RAM speed equally.

My 2600+ mobile results

I got a XP-M 2600+ a few months ago and it's currently running at 190 x 12.5 = 2375mhz on my 8RDA board. The 8RDA doesn't like a FSB higher than 190-195, so it's not the chip holding me back. It's definately not the IQYHA stepping (I think it's a AQZHA).

I'm running PC2700 at 190 FSB, but it's getting 2.75-2.8v.

I run the following:

Abit NF7-S v2
Mobile 2500+ IQYHA 2003 week 52
12.5 x 200=2500MHz 1.79v @ 60C under full Prime 95 load
SLK800a w/ Panaflo 80mm L1A + Ceramique
Case (Antec SX1040B clone) is super quiet w/ 5 additional L1A's & Antec TC 550w psu

I just bought my 2600+ system and built it yesterday heres my results:

running the 2600+ @ 200x12.5=2500ghz @1.80 stable. here is my 3dmark2001SE score

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7837772

3dmark2003

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=2531478

I cant seem to get stable if I try to bump the FSB up above 200. Heats not bad right now im idle at 38C 50C to 51C under load.

Funny thing is I can run hot cpu pro 4 pro perfect no errors but every version of prime I run seems to error out after about 2-4 mins. UT2003 runs beautifully.

Oh memeory tests fine on memtest86.

Also here is the specs on my cpu

AXMG2600FQQ4C Y880381K30028
AQYHA 0346XPMW

not really...good RAM really helps since you can up the FSB as well, but the mobiles are multiplier unlocked which means you can leave the RAM at stock if you like :D

My mobile 2400+ with crappy PC2100 is currently at 2.26GHz @ 1.65 V (1.8 stock). It runs at 2.4 GHz, but my case has crappy cooling so it gets up to 54C or so :( I'm going to try getting it higher when I get better RAM and another fan.
