from my understanding, there are 3 different types of the 2600+ (Barton 333MHz FSB, Thoroughbred 266MHz FSB, Thoroughbred 333MHz FSB). how can I find out for certain which one I have?

also, my motherboard is the Asus A7n8x deluxe. this MB supports FSB 400 / 333 / 266 / 200 MHz. currently, my bios says that the FSB is at 200 MHz.

my next questions are:

1. if my CPU is the Barton 333 MHz, shouldn't it be set at 333 MHz instead of 200 MHz? I also noticed that my RAM is PC3200 @ 200 MHz; is this what may be limiting me to 200MHz.

2. it seems that at the very least my FSB should be at least at 266 MHz?

what should I do? what is the best type of RAM to use if I have the:

Barton 333MHz FSB: (type of RAM) & (what should the FSB read in the BIOS)
Thoroughbred 266MHz FSB: (type of RAM)
Thoroughbred 333MHz FSB: (type of RAM)

Sorry for the newbie type questions, I'm a little new to this techie stuff. Thanks in advanced!

There are only 2 types of XP2600+ CPU's. Both are t-breb B, one runs at 133mhz FSB (266mhz double pumped), the other is at 166mhz FSB (333mhz double pumped). There is a Barton XP2500+ and a XP2700+ but no XP2600+.

When you first boot your computer it will default to 100mhz FSB (200mhz DP), you then go in the bios and change the FSB to 133(266) or 166(333). One easy way of identifing which CPU you have is by noticing what frequency it loads at while at 100(200)fsb. If it loads at 1250mhz then you have a 166(333) model which is 166fsbX12.5multiplier(2083mhz), and if it loads at 1600mhz then you have a 133(266) model which is 133fsbX16multiplier(2133mhz).

Your 3200DDR memory can go to 200mhz(400mhz Double Data). I think it is loading at 100mhz (200mhz Double Data) which is default. So no your memory will not be limiting factor, in fact your memory is rated higher than your CPU. When you figure out which CPU you have either 133(266) or 166(333) then set your memory to match the FSB since it will run faster that way.

Good Luck
