most people here will say 2500+ cuz it OCs to 2.2 ghz (3200+), but i like the 2600+ since it can OC to 2.4 Ghz which will outperform the 2.2 Ghz barton

Assuming you want the one that will perform better... and assuming you're not going to overclock... just look at the benchmarks on various websites.

If you're going to overclock... don't get either of them, get an XP1700 for $45 or less, and spend the extra cash you would have spent on the XP2500 or XP2600 and get a really good heatsink/fan.

I've heard the Volcano 9's are crappy... I'd go with an SK-7 or SLK-800.
And depending on the stepping of your XP1800 you may be able to overclock it, and may not be able to.

Another vote for the Barton. I find the extra cache speeds up math operations significantly, no matter what the clockspeed the chip is running at.

Do not get a volcano 9! They are a pain in the arse to install without taking the mobo out of the case. They are also the loudest that I had ever heard.

I recommend a Vantech AeroFlow VA4-C7040.

I had the same question.... FedEx delivered my 2500+ five minutes ago. Even if you're not overclocking 2500+, at default speeds it is still better than the 2600+.

CPUs alone aren't a standard to measure good or bad and stuff! it's the whole system that they're in! mobo, mem, etc etc make all the diffrence! put a 2500 on a KT400 and it's something, on a nforce2 it's something else (not to mention memories and stuff) even on pure cpu bench like prime!

(A7V8X/A7N8X>>> working on benching both to see what's out of each)

if that was true, why does the barton have a 2500+ PR rating and the 2600+ has a 2600+ PR rating?
