I installed the AMD 2400+ on a ECS k7s5a mobo v5.0. Just got the retail AMD 2400+ today from newegg. Same mobo, ram, and video card that I am posting from now. Just in a different case.

Well I tried to boot several times and tried to reseat the video card several times but no luck on getting any video at all. So I took the 2400+ off. Put my 2100+ back on the mobo. Moved components to other case again. And it works perfect.

It sounds like the box was booting up fine but I had no video so I couldn't really tell.

I have another brand new ecs k7s5a mobo coming on Wed. I am going to remove the thermal pad and put AS on the CPU this time and use a different video card that I will have access to.

I have bad luck like this. I know my cpu can't be defective. I heard the hard drive booting. Just wasn't getting video.
Anyone else have similar problems before? Before switching out processors is it necessary to clear the bios? Could that
be the cause of no video??

i would try clearing the cmos
it might help

i once brought a new video card and it did the same thing you are describing
so i tryed it in two other comps with the same result then rma'd it to newegg and they sent me a new one (same model) and it worked

but you say the vid card works with the 2100+ in the motherboard right ??

i don't see any reason why a 2100+ would work and a 2400+ wouldn't

maybe just waiting for your new motherboard and testing the cpu out in there would be a good idea
if it don't work just send it back
check the time you have to do this tho it could be only a few days

Try updating the Bios on the Mobo, there's a bios called the cheapoman bios that works well with the 2400+

Try switching just the cpu without changing any of the other components. It's possible that in moving everything to a new case, you changed something without realizing it (i.e. something is now making contact that wasn't in the old case).

Could the I/O plate have been the problem? The newer k7s5a has vertical audio out jacks. So a special
i/o plate is needed. Well in the case where the 2100+ works fine I don't uses a i/o plate.

In the other case I tried putting the exact components in except I had a 2400+ I had a I/O plate
in that case. Could it be making contact somewhere and causing the video problem? This is racking
my brain why it wouldn't work in the other case with the 2400+ but will in this case.. err.. Will find out
more tomorrow when I get the other ECS mobo i guess.

Like I suggested earlier, try just switching the cpu. Then, if you have the same problem, you can be absolutely sure it has to do with the cpu. As it stands now, you can't be sure the problem is cpu related since you changed other things at the same time.

well the only thing i changed was the case. when I got no video after booting up several times
then I switched back to the case I am posting from now and all works well again.

Tomorrow I have another brand new ECS mobo coming so I won't be needing to switch things
around too much. Guess I'll find out tomorrow whats up. Really hope this CPU doesn't need to
be RMA'd.
