AMD 2100xp to a 2700xp problems...heat related?

Ok...so back home I didn't have a single heat problem...but when I brought my tower back to my dorm room i started having a bunch of problems. My guess its due to all the dust, poor circulation and heat in my room. Right now I have the stock CPU fan/heat sink. 2 intake fans, 1 exhaust fan on top of the case, and then my power supply has two fans...one on the bottom sucking hot air and another one blowing hot air out the back.

Currently...my cpu is at a ridiculous 48*C [118*F]. I opened the window and was able to drop the cpu temp to 98*F. In which case the system ran fine. But now I get physical memory dumps, especially when I use Adobe Illustrator. The MB temperature is 18*C [64*F] I dropped the MB temperature to about 9*C with the window open. I think I might declock a little bit just so I can be more stable. I have over clocked to a 2800xp, but I need a better heatsink/fan before I do that.

This is the error message I get: Error Message: STOP: 0x0000009C (0x00000004, 0x00000000, 0xb2000000, 0x00020151)

After reading it; it seems like I need to figure out how to keep my system cooler. I'm just confirming my hypothesis here.

Thanks a bunch.

You probably should get a better heatsink if you want to overclock, since you have the hottest of all of the Athlon XP's. But, I think that maybe you are stressing your ram too much. Try running the ram at a higher latency, like 3-4-4-11, or run Memtest86 at your current ram timings, with the window open, to make sure that heat plays no part in whether it passes or fails.

Hmm...no memory errors...But I made a boot cd since I had no floppies. How do I adjust the RAM latency? I couldn't find it in the BIOS....of course i probably over looked it.

I'm still learning abut OCing.

Okay, man, first thing you need to do is go through every single page of your bios, looking at every setting, and "selecting" them, so you see what choices each of them have. You need to know something about a machine that you are trying to get the ultimate performance from! While you are doing that, you will find every setting available to you in your bios. And make sure that you set the PCI frequency to 33mhz, and the AGP frequency to 66mhz. That's more than likely your problem. I would wait on overclocking, though, until you have completely cleaned all of your fans, and cleaned and reseated your cpu heatsink. Heatsinks can get dislodged when you move a computer.

oops, sorry it didnt include what i had written for some reason1

what are you using to measure temps - asus probe [which measures socket temp] or mbm5[which can measure diode temp and is about 10C higher than socket]?

what is so riduculous about 48C??? my 2100+ running at 2400+ idles at 44-46C and loads at 54C and has been stable for past 10 months this way.
same board as yours and if anything my fan config is not as good as yours as i have lots of outtakes [3 at back inc psu; 1 on top] and only 1 side intake

I'm just trying to see if my stability problem is heat related...I'm hoping thats all it is...Generally heat problems are easier to fix.

No not heat related, most likely RAM settings or an anemic Power supply.

i'm inclined to agree - with the ram; it doesnt seem like a psu thing to me.
he hasnt posted any details about what fsb etc he is using, what vcore so hard to say
