Should I get a retail box 2100 rev a with a 3 year warrenty or a 2100 rev b OEM with a 30 day warrenty for about the same price?
I don't overclock.

if you dont plan to overclock then it doesnt matter between the revisions..

get the retail, as the heatsink is probably good enough for your needs anyways , plus u get the 3yr warranty

No on the overclocking, I can't see pushing electronics farther than what they were designed for in the first place. They run hot enough as it is. This goes for almost all electronic equipment.

How about the lower power comsumption/less heat issue of the "B"'s?

oh god... knowning te potential of the 2100 Tbred Bs, how can you not wanna get 1 and easily oc it to 2800+ speeds? just add 5 bucks @ newegg for a 1 year warranty, that should be way enough, coz at that time if your cpu is still going, ur fine.. Tbred Bs runs much cooler than As.

Where have you seen tests on the A vs the B
And what is this $5 deal?

During checkout at Newegg.com, they give you the option of adding a 1-year warranty for $5. It's at the bottom of the page, right below Rush delivery and above Submit.

While true, you would require a copper heatsink for the Tbred B. Extra cash. Then he wants the warranty. Extra Cash. With no overclocking, he will save himself some money by getting the retail, with the retail heatsink, and the warranty.

There is absolutely no performance difference between the Palomino and the Tbreds. Only overclockability and heat output. Since hes not planning to overclock, it comes down to heat output.

Here is an easy way to determine which processor is right for you. If you want a silent rig, and got some extra money to spend, get the Tbred. You would have to purchase a copper bottomed HSF, as well as the warrenty if you would like that. For a decent HSF, and the warrenty, I expect $30 extra. You could skimp on the HSF, but I would not recommend it.

If you are on a budget, and do not mind a little fan noise, then go with the Palomino.

The extra $5 is fine (I will look into that), heat isn't, neither is excessive fan noise. Most of the noise is from the PS anyway and the case fan.

I wasn't planning to use the stock HSF, instead I was going to get the Taisol CGK760172 HSF from Newegg ($20). Too many choices with HSF's. I don't want one of those units that you need a brace to support the weight because it is heavier than the MB itself! Nor do I want to spend $50+ for one either even if it is made in the US.
