ive had this computer for over a year now and i have never really noticed anything weird about temps or slow downs. lately ive noticed big slowdowns when im playing games. so reinstalled just to make sure it wasn't windows and thats not the case. so i checked the temps and my cpu is at 74 celius and system is at 32 celius. so i think it has to do with my cpu running so hot at idol. i really don't know how hot its been running like this, but my guess has been for awhile. here are my specs

2000+ on stock hsf
epox 8k3a+
512 samsung memory
ati 9700 np with 3.9 cats

so should i just replace the hsf or do you think ive done damnit to the cpu that i should just get something new?

all input is appreciated.

Yeah dust can do it, and it could be the CPU fan. But I highly doubt you damaged the CPU. From experience I can say that if the CPU still works, then it probably isn't damaged. My Athlon 1333MHz box had this problem, and I replaced the HSF and it worked fine. The Athlon got so hot that it would lock up, but with the new HSF I run it 24/7 with no heat, speed, or stability issues.

As was mentioned above, blow the dust out of your case and out of the heatsink/fan. You might also try scraping off what's left of the thermal pad on the retail heatsink and trying some thermal paste. That should help with your temps some too. :)

if it is a pally, get a new heatsink. After about a year, the fan that comes with a 2000+ palomino gets a little slow and cant cool it properly. Get a new heatsink and fan to put on it, that cpu puts out over 75 watts of heat, which is quite hot.
