Hi all,

I have been reading up and experimenting with overclocking for the last couple of weeks and getting nowhere.

System Specs :-

Mobo - ASUS A7V8X-X
AMD XP 2000+ (Palomine :-( )
512MB - PC2700 DDR SDRAM 184 Dimm
Geforce Ti4200 64MB
Coolmaster Heatink and Fan (Adjustable

Standard FSB set to 133/33 - Mulitplier 12.5X
Vcore 1.75 - But getting a reading of 1.8 with ASUS Probe - Idling Temps CPU 44C - MB 29C

I have tried upping the FSB by 5 (138) I then run Prime95 and getting an error after the 1st test or so. I then tried upping it another 5 to 143 - Windows boots but then restarts. Anything above 144 and the system doesn't even boot, just hangs. I know I've probably got the worst combo (Mobo/CPU) for overclocking, but has any1 got any suggestions. It would be nice to get a bit more power out of my system - I have read other posts with people with similiar specs achieving some sort of increase.

All the settings in the CPU are adjustable (Not locked)

Any help would be appreciated

Mark.

You could always buy a processor for like $50 and then sell your's to recover some of the cost. Almost anything you buy right now will overclock better than a Palomino.

Yeah I kinda got the impression I wasn't going to be able to do much with it.

Are these any good?

Athlon XP 2800+ 512Kb SoA AXDA2800DKV4D from Dabs.com?

They're good, but not the best value... I'd go with something like an XP2500 or XP2100 or XP1700 or XP1800... any one of those should reach 2 Ghz without a problem, as long as the 1700, 1800, or 2100 is a Thoroughbred B core, not a Thoroughbred A or Palomino. The XP2500 is a Barton core, which is a Thoroughbred B with twice the cache.

Cheers Jeff, I've had a look on Dabs, how can you tell what type of core they have as it doesn't specify on the website. Are all XP2500 Barton core's?

I'm playing with a 2000+ T-bred A right now that a friend has. Find a good JUICB 1700+ DLT3C with a 0310 or above production code. I've got a couple in rigs and am pretty impressed.
